5 ways to give yourself some TLC
Feeling stressed? Here are 5 ways to give yourself some TLC. As sometimes we find ourselves so wrapped up in fulfilling the needs of others, that we forget how important it is to fit in some valuable “me time”. Sure, spending time with your loved ones and friends is enough to make anyone feel happy, but did you know that self-care is just as essential to your overall happiness?
You shouldn’t feel selfish for taking time out to focus on you. Instead we are telling you to embrace more of that TLC in your life. Here are our top ways to do so.
Meditation
Sitting down in a comfortable position has got to be the obvious winner, right? Meditation is great for relaxing. It has many calming benefits such as giving time to unwind and space for self-discovery. It also offers a positive outlook and improved concentration. Simply find a quiet place, sit comfortably and slowly start to relax your muscles, focussing on your breathing. For as little as 10 minutes, close your eyes and let your mind wander. If you have a bit more time, consider doing a yoga class. It incorporates mediation as well as physical movements.
Pamper yourself
If you are having trouble remembering the last time you had a haircut, then it’s about time you made a trip to the salon. It’s important to reward yourself every now and again to reduce signs of stress. Stress isn’t great for anyone, let alone the effects it can have on your body, so one of the best thing to do is to treat yourself to a well-deserved rest. Whether that means booking in a few beauty treatments, hitting the spa or even popping on a face mask at home, by upping the attention devoted to yourself, you are reducing the ill effects of stress and generating positive effects of its own. Plus, your beauty regime will be totally on point!
Go on a phone detox
Most people tend to associate the word detox with eating clean food or a fancy retreat. But it can also be referred to someone entering a mobile-free zone. There’s a fine line between checking your phone and being addicted to your phone. An obsession with technology has increased dramatically over time, and just like any other addiction, it can cause an unbalanced and unhappy lifestyle. Take a break from the device, switch it off and be at one with your natural surroundings. Or try reading a book, which is just as relaxing as scrolling through your Twitter feed.
Get moving
Exercising may not sound too appealing for relaxation. However, moving your body is important to help combat stress. By increasing your heart rate, your brain is releasing feel-good chemicals that can help to balance the levels of hormones, putting your mind at ease. Exercise is also a good distraction from the cycle of negative thoughts that can heighten the symptoms of anxiety and depression. Even a quick walk around the block has many calming effects.
Fit in what you love
Instead of jotting down endless appointments, deadlines and shopping lists, simply make a date with you and do something that you love. That could be losing yourself in a good book, cooking a new recipe, or cuddling your pets, but whatever it may be, make it a priority for yourself and nobody else!
