Stress might seem like an unavoidable evil; in fact, it’s hard to think of many people who aren’t stressed to some level (even if they hide it well). It’s a struggle not to be in this modern age; at work we push ourselves harder and for longer, there are ever more opportunities for things to do, nights out to be had, calories to be burned, pictures to be Instagrammed… in other words, there’s always lot going on. And it doesn’t hurt to have a toolkit of stress management strategies to make sure things run smoothly and you don’t burn yourself out.

As a stress management expert and hypnotherapist, I’ve collected 10 of the best, tried and tested lifestyle tips for managing stress.

1. Write

There’s something about writing things down that helps us to get to know ourselves more and see things from a different perspective. Put pen to paper and write a stream of consciousness. As any thought, worry or frustration comes to mind, write it down. Getting things out can feel pretty damn good, but you might also find that you’re able to spot patterns and triggers, as well as being able to make sense of your own thoughts and feelings, creating mental space for you to find solutions. I recommend that my clients write every day, either first thing in the morning or after work.
