3. Swap circuit classes for GRID
Functional training, like GRID classes at Virgin Active, are becoming popular choices for 2015 because they involve training the body for the activities performed in daily life: ‘Whether your aim is to improve your athletic ability or just live life better – increased movement means enhanced performance,’ tells the team at Virgin Active.
GRID classes are the ultimate in 30-minute tough workouts and there are four in total: GRID Lean, which uses high-intensity interval training to shed fat; GRID Fit, which boosts stamina through aerobic training; GRID Strong, designed to increase strength and increase lean muscle mass; and GRID Active, developed to maximises strength of motion – particularly useful for participants of Tough Mudder, Survival of the Fittest and the like.
These unique classes run on a grid shape and incorporate the six fundamentals of movement – twist, pull, push, bend, squat and lunge. ‘Designed to work up a sweat and unlock freedom of movement, intensity levels are kept high throughout the classes, making it possible to burn between 700-900 calories in just 30 minutes.’
