Rotterdam was more-or-less flattened by bombs during WWII, but the city has since risen to become one of Europe’s most vibrant cities. Flanking the Nieuwe Maas shipping channel, the busy port city sparkles with futuristic architecture, forward-thinking local initiatives (such as inner-city canal surfing!) and a diverse, multiethnic community.
