So, you’re ready to get back on the fitness wagon? Our new year fat-burning workout should ease you in nicely.

So: ‘tis the season to, er, regret what you did in the last season. But don’t worry about it! Christmas and new year are both done now, which means there’s no better time to get into fat-burning mode. And here’s the good news: when it comes to effective fat loss, intensity’s the key, so there’s no need to go for a long cardio slog (or even trek to the gym if you don’t want to) when it’s cold outside, since you’ve got everything you need at home. This short, tough circuit will leave your metabolism firing for hours after you’re done – and it’ll only take 20 minutes. Plenty of time to see off the rest of the egg-nog reserves.

Do each move for the given reps straight through, without a break between moves. Rest for 90 seconds and repeat. Three rounds will be enough to get you burning fat all day – five is heroic.

Instructions:

With your feet about shoulder-width apart, sit down and back as if you’re going to sit in a chair – your thighs should be parallel to the floor at the bottom.

Keep your weight on your heels as you stand up.
