Aspen and Snowmass
For those who love the great outdoors, head to Aspen and its nearby sister town, Snowmass. Famed for its fabulous skiing, Aspen is in fact a health and fitness haven all year round. With its infinite rugged and mountainous terrain, Aspen and Snowmass are home to a diverse range of outdoor leisure activities.
Take in the breathtaking views from a hot air balloon, hike up to the Maroon Bells, an iconic set of peaks in the Elk mountains or take a hiking tour with ACES (Aspen Center for Environmental Studies), a non-profit environmental organisation which offers tours through Aspen’s stunning surrounding scenery.
White water rafting is also on the bucket list for those visiting Aspen during the summer months. With access to the Roaring Fork and Colorado rivers, there are extensive routes to try. Whether you’re a rafting novice or more of a thrill-seeker, there is something for everyone.
Snowmass, Aspen’s smaller and less well-known sister is home to Bike Snowmass, a network of new and existing downhill mountain bike trails. Ranging from child-friendly routes to more challenging, heart-pumping single track lanes, this is the ultimate adrenalin-pumping workout.
If you feel like soaking up the scenery while injecting some OM into your life, try mountain top yoga on the famous Ajax mountain. The beautiful natural scenery coupled with the calm setting makes it the ideal spot for yoga. During the summer months, there are three free hour-long Hatha yoga classes a week. Class size is limited and reservations are required so book your spot early to ensure there is no FOMO – there is even a Lululemon shop in Aspen town centre if you forget to pack your yoga gear!
