Malala Yousafzai
It’s hard to believe that this young woman is still just 17. Since being shot in 2012 on her schoolbus for her outspoken blog on life under the Taliban, the Pakistani schoolgirl has not just made a full recovery, but gone on to be an activist, speaker and the youngest ever Nobel laureate. Since the attack, she has addressed the UN, the Oxford Union and Harvard University on human rights, calling for worldwide access to education, more opportunities for women – and has even challenged Barack Obama in person on his use of drone strikes. As she says in her book, I Am Malala: ‘We realise the importance of our voices only when we are silenced.’
