Billie Jean King
In 1973, at age 29, King made a grand-slam for women everyday with one very important win – the Battle of the Sexes. This was the name given to the tennis match against the 55-year-old Bobby Riggs, who had taunted King that she couldn’t beat a man. King went on to found the Women’s Tennis Association in the US and the Women’s Sports Association. She has been credited in the tennis world – and in the sporting world in general – with advancing the cause for women in sport.
