Smile! It’s time to discover 5 ways to get whiter teeth. Hollywood smile, here we come!

It may have been Mike Myers’ stint on the Austin Powers US film series that did it, or it may have been the sheer number of famous Brits with bad teeth, but if you were to ask an American which nation was famed for having a wonky set of knashers, the answer would most likely be Britain. How could Ricky Gervais or Gordon Brown’s stained set ever compete with the perfect dazzling smiles that crossed our TV screens – courtesy of Julia Roberts and Cameron Diaz?

The health of the dentine is literally reflected in the colour of the tooth

But believe it or not, recent years have seen the Brits feistily catching up with the Americans, to achieve a set of teeth to be proud of. We may not be the next X factor judge to feel obliged to transform their teeth into a perfect white set, but that won’t stop us from seeking alternative options to brighten up our smile! Check out our five top tips to help you on your mission!

1. Crunchy vegetables like celery, carrots, cucumber and broccoli are naturally abrasive, so they’ll polish your teeth and remove stains from the enamel without harming or eroding it. Fruits like apples and pears have the same effect if not better, as they also contain malic acid. Consuming crunchy veg also produces more saliva which protects teeth from cavity-causing bacteria. Nadine Artemis, author of Holistic Dental Care agrees that eating healthily is the best way to achieve white teeth: ‘The health of the dentine is literally reflected in the colour of the tooth. So the best way to whiten your teeth is always from within. Dentine that is fed plenty of nutrients, minerals, and fat-soluble vitamins creates strong, white teeth.’
