You might be thinking: ‘where did the long summer evenings, beach holidays and great tan go?’ And you do have a fair point. But turn that frown upside down and give autumn a chance. Don’t forget that it can be one of the most beautiful seasons of the year. It (kind of) marks the beginning of the festive season, and it’s your chance to wear big cosy jumpers, and to drink loads of Starbucks’ Pumpkin Spice Lattes. Celebration across the nation!
And here are 5 more reasons why we LOVE autumn…
The fashion
A/W 15 is currently looking HOT. For starters, the ‘70s trend is sticking around this autumn, so if this is what you rock already you’re already half way there. Layering is another trend that can be achieved simply by rethinking your wardrobe, which means you won’t have to wave goodbye to your summer wardrobe completely. Big win. Plus, layering equals warmth, which is always welcome.
Thought bold prints and bright colours were reserved for summer only? Think again. Sequins, glitter and bold graphic art prints are going to be very popular, proving that autumn will be anything but dull.
Finally, fur is predicted to be huge for A/W and who doesn’t love fur (faux obvs)? This trend will ensure you are snug, cosy, and looking on point.
The comfort food
Autumn is the time for comforting food that will warm you from the inside out. There is a whole host of wonderful fruits and vegetables that are now coming into season, so why not make the most of it? Blackberries, butternut squash, parsnip and pumpkin are just a few vegetables that are going to be super tasty right now. With such wonderful produce now in season, it’s the perfect opportunity to stay in on a rainy evening and make yourself a bowl of something good.
The excuse to be pampered
With about 2 million people in the UK affected by SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) and the cold and rain generally taking a toll on our hair and skin, it’s important to make time for you at this time of the year. Even better, if it’s raining outside, what better excuse is there to stay in and have a little pamper sesh? Take a long soak in a bubble bath, light a few candles, and put a face mask on. Exfoliate and moisturise afterwards, and you’re sure to be feeling relaxed and renewed. Then, all you need to do is get into your jammies and cuddle up on the sofa (cosy fire preferable) and suddenly autumn doesn’t seem too bad after all…
Halloween and Bonfire Night
Who doesn’t love Halloween and Bonfire Night? The fireworks, the sparklers, the parties, the dressing up, the carving up of pumpkins and the cosiness of a glowering bonfire. Let yourself get swept up with the festivities and feel excited by this time of year. And, for a half naughty/half healthy Halloween treat, why not try making toffee apples this year?
The clocks go back
And the best thing about autumn? At 2am on Sunday 25th October, the clocks go backwards. That gives you one more hour doing whatever it is that you love doing. Perfect!
