Got aches and pains? Here’s 5 reasons to see a chiropractor. As this drug-free approach to health care is definitely underrated and undervalued!

So what exactly is a chiropractor? Chiropractors treat the joints and muscles of the body; they use manual therapy treatment focusing on manipulation of the spine. In addition to that, they can also provide guidance on diet, exercise, lifestyle and rehabilitation. To give us a helping hand, we spoke to the lead chiropractic at London Wellness Centre Joanna Lowry-Corry. So, why should you see a chiropractor?

To boost energy levels

We usually associate chiropractic care with body aches and pains, and the main aspect that is usually discounted is that it boosts personal performance through improvement of energy levels. How? Because if your spine and the muscles in your back are tight, then they are restricted to move naturally – in other words blocking your body’s energy flow. The best way to describe it is a blocked drain not allowing water to flow freely through the pipes. It’s similar to your nerve supply running through your back. Seeing a chiropractor will relax your muscles and re-centre your joints back to where they belong – allowing you to feel like you again!

To Improve your mental health

Mental health problems are becoming more and more common and we need to address this accordingly. The first point of call is usually seeing a psychologist and getting medication, which unfortunately doesn’t always go to plan. As medication usually comes with a load of side effects that can worsen the issue. Chiropractic care is a safer method to get to the core of some mental health disorders, and this alternative method of treatment could potentially help. Joanna says: ‘If you find it hard to concentrate during the day, or feel fatigue, this could actually be due to impaired signals in your central nervous system or musculoskeletal system – not something you’d have thought to see a chiropractor for but it might be a very effective treatment’.

Relieve stress

Having a stressful lifestyle will also put stress on your body, mainly around your neck and back. It’s not long until it becomes a never-ending cyle of feeling stressed because of your situation, then getting neck ache, which makes it worse. Tension can be relieved by seeing a chiropractor in order to help you recover. Joanna says: ‘If you suffer from headaches you might not be aware that it can be to do with tension or imbalance in your musculoskeletal system, which the chiropractor can help you correct and as a result, release headaches’. Not only will your aches and pains be relieved, but you’ll feel the psychological benefits too.

To evaluate sport-specific posture

Whatever your sport may be, every exercise has positions and postures that you use repetitively to perform specific skills. Most of the time these movements are unnatural. We weren’t created and adapted to move in this certain way, and that’s usually the reason we get injured. Evaluation by a chiropractor involves focusing on the area’s most susceptible to injury and over-use, and making sure care is provided to stop you getting injured.

Reaching your potential

Chiropractors work closely with athletes to ensure they approach their training regime safely and effectively. Similar to the above, the strains that you get from over using particular muscles, or muscles that are more targeted to injury in your specific sport can cause stress on your body. Visiting a chiropractor will help to reduce the and aches and pains that are a result of compromising other muscles.
