4. Knock stress on the head

This time of year sees stress levels rise. Stress causes an increase in cortisol levels which is unwelcome for many reasons. High levels increases cravings, especially cravings for sugary foods and carbs which as all know are well available. It also makes you look older by damaging the collagen in the skin – which is not what you want at the annual party, right? It also reduces immunity, making you even more susceptible to the colds and coughs doing the rounds. So, take time out to breathe and relax. Kelly Brooks, London based yoga teacher, recommends sitting with one hand on your stomach and simply noticing and feeling your breath. Slowing down and engaging with this most basic of bodily functions can have a surprisingly positive benefit.
