9. Ramp it up

‘Short, hard workouts are often easier to motivate yourself with,’ says Joanna. An effective high-intensity workout she loves is HIIT. Forget spending ages on a slow-paced jog, this workout is hardcore and highly time effective, taking just 25 minutes. ‘I often do HIIT on an indoor bike by cycling 30 seconds flat-out, followed by 30 seconds of recovery time. I do this five times preceded by a 10-minite warm-up and followed by a 10-minute cool-down.’ A similar style can be achieved on a treadmill or by mixing up functional moves like burpees and mountain climbers. ‘There are lots of apps that you can download to give you some more ideas,’ Joanna adds.
