Yes, OK dad, we know it’s not a fashion show, but wearing clothes that make you feel good to the gym is a great way of motivating yourself to exercise.

Summer wardrobe, winter wardrobe, work-out wardrobe: all three are equally important, and there are so many amazing brands to choose from that it’s not difficult to find something you love.

Feeling self-conscious about how you’re looking at the gym is not conducive to a great work out session, yet for those larger-chested ladies among us it can be difficult to know how to best dress to avoid this.  Here are five top tips for making your big-boobed-bod look great and feel comfortable for your work-out:

Find a well-fitting sports bra

It’s not always easy to find good sports bras in the biggest sizes, but they are out there, and putting in the groundwork to find one that suits your shape really is worth it. Specialist shops like Bravissimo have a good selection, and lovely experts on hand to help you find your perfect fit.  Freya’s new Active crop-top sports bra, £40, has been scientifically tested to reduce strain and bounce and it looks great too.

Get the balance right

To draw attention away from your upper half, go for patterned leggings or trousers with a plainer fitted top.  Lulu Lemon and Sweaty Betty both have awesome selections to make your legs stand out. We love these Ditsy Luxe ones.

If you’re looking for something special that won’t break the bank, try Primark, Florence and Fred at Tesco, ASOS or Boohoo for cool clobber at a more reasonable price. These Tesco floral print leggings are a snip at only £15.

Don’t be afraid to show off your shape

When dressing for a workout, it can be tempting to hide under baggy t-shirts and loose-fitting joggers. The best, most flattering way to dress for your figure is to highlight your best bits rather than leaving everything to the imagination. If you’re feeling brave, a tight vest or crop-top with statement leggings will really show off your assets. If you’d rather not draw attention to your jiggly bits, wear a loose t-shirt in a dark colour with a neckline that flatters your shape and couple it with some brightly coloured shorts or leggings. This off-the-shoulder mesh panel sweatshirt from Boohoo, £12, is loose fitting, so will keep you covered up and looking stylish.

Accessorise (it’s the little things)

Drawing attention to something you’re proud of, whether it’s your toned tummy or your funky footwear, is the best way to ensure you feel confident when working out in a gym environment. Investing in some funky new headphones, some brightly-coloured trainers or even treating yourself to something small like a new water bottle or cute hairband can be enough to give you the excited feeling that makes getting out of bed and to the gym a bit easier. We can’t get enough of these reversible fringe fighter headbands from Lulu Lemon. They’re pretty and practical!

Reward yourself

Attractive sportswear can be a bit pricey, but it’s a good investment if it inspires you to work out more. Splash the cash on good quality items that you really love, and wear them with pride. Try exchanging your morning coffee for a hot water with a green tea bag from home, or drinking soft drinks on one night out a week and putting the pennies you save towards buying yourself something new at the end of the month as a reward. You’ll appreciate it even more having saved for it, and you’ll feel better for it too!
