With celebs such as Kate Middleton, Alexa Chung and Kate Moss rocking the long fringe, it’s clear we’ve got a new autumn trend on our hands. So, we thought it was time to look at what it is, how to get it and, most importantly, how to work it. ‘It’s all about the fringe this autumn,’ says celeb hairdresser Paul Edmonds. ‘Fringes are the one unifying feature of this season’s trend, which lurches between textured hair and beauty waves using products like salt sprays and silk – to create beautifully blow-dried hair. The long fringe is the link.’
So how do we achieve it?
The long fringe is an ideal solution for that awkward in-between fringe stage and is actually fairly easy to perfect. Wear it either with a middle parting in soft waves or angle it to the left or right. Ensure that your bangs or long fringe are in good nick with regular deep conditions and trims – as the fringe frames the face and should be radiant and healthy. As Paul said, use products such as salt spray to achieve those highly sought after tousled waves.
Can anyone wear it?
Yes! ‘These days it is no longer about heavy set bangs hitting the eyebrows but a fringe is worn in a softer, broken up fashion,’ says Paul. ‘This allows it to transcend all ages and hair types. We are also seeing fringes on all hair lengths, long to short.’ And the long fringe doesn’t have to boring either. There are a number of ways to mix it up such as changing the parting or adding in plaits and braids. ‘For a more evening look pull it forward with a bit of body,’ suggests Paul.
