Spa treatments from around the world

Russian parenie venik massage

Where did it originate?

The parenie treatment, an invigorating thermal venik massage, is one of Russia’s oldest and most popular traditions. The ancient Slavs would lash their bodies with veniks: bundles of oak, birch and eucalyptus leaves to maximise the health benefits of the banya (kind of a Russian version of a sauna).

What is it?

The treatment involves being gently thrashed with veniks in the banya. This is followed by a cold plunge into icy waters to detoxify your body, boost blood circulation and relieve tense muscles. The experience is energising and relaxing at the same time.

Where can you get it?
