The flu is a total mood killer. And to add insult to injury, your skin also takes a hit when you’re ill. Dehydration shows on your complexion, and bloodshot eyes, blotches, dark under-eye circles and runny noses are common sights. So here’s how to get your glow back after being ill.

Stay hydrated

After blowing your nose thousands of times, the importance of rehydrating cannot be overemphasized. Dehydration shows on the skin through facial wrinkles, and rehydration is an inside and out job. So slap on the moisturiser in the morning and at night and drink at least eight glasses of fluids daily.

Teabag power

Those teabags that have been your closest friend in a quest to keep warm when you were under the weather could also be your saving grace in bringing back your glow. It goes without saying that one of the aftermaths of flu is red, puffy, tired eyes. This can easily be remedied by taking a nap while placing cold, wet teabags on each eye for 15 minutes. This instantly gets rid of the puffiness and considerably reduces the redness and tiredness. Instead of walking around with eyes that tell a bed rest story, you shall have a pair of happy, sparkly eyes!

Cool your eye cream

After an episode of battling illness, it’s not easy to believe that something cold could be the solution to your problems. But putting your eye cream in the fridge will not only act to resolve the dark circles under your eyes, it will also give a much-needed cooling effect for your peepers. So get a spot in your fridge for the eye cream!

Conceal, conceal, conceal!

Wellness and getting back on your saddle does not happen overnight. But before you get there, your face should not be telling the story of what has been happening. The facial wrinkles and red nose need not be seen. An opaque concealer in a shade that’s slightly paler than your skin tone will perfectly hide redness, especially on your nose. Red and rosy blush and lipstick, on the other hand, draw the attention to everything else that is red on your face. Therefore, avoid these like a plague right now.

Don’t cake your face in base

Foundation and face powder also look cakey when applied to a dehydrated face. So, instead of the base and powder, apply a moisturiser and a mineral-based foundation to conceal and give the skin even coverage without drying it out.
