Platelet Rich Plasma Treatment

Everyone from regular gym bunnies to hardcore marathon runners knows what it feels like to get injured as a result of training. Taking time out will help your body heal, but when you’re looking to cut recovery time, a Platelet Rich Plasma treatment (or PRP) could be just what you’re looking for. Said to shorten recovery time by up to 50 per cent, PRP can treat muscle tears, tendinitis, ligament injuries, foot injuries and other sports injuries.

Replacing the use of cortisone, PRP involves centrifuging a blood sample from the patient (essentially separating the blood from the plasma). The straw-coloured PRP is then injected directly into the injury site under ultrasound guidance. PRP contains twice the concentration of growth factors and other healing elements, and kick starts healing and recovery, repairing the tissues and shortening the recovery time. There is no need for anaesthetic, plus, down time is minimal. Magic!
