Old red eyes
Eye makeup is just fantastic. Until you fall asleep in it. Or forget to wear waterproof mascara when re-watching The Notebook and end up rubbing MaxFactor into your eyeballs (ahem, it happened to a friend). When you wake to red-rimmed, swollen peepers (possibly with accompanying puffy bags in a not-so attractive shade of grey), the first thing to do is remove any remnants of makeup using a gentle cleanser like Liz Earle Hot Cloth Cleanser (£13.25 for 100ml). Then wrap some ice cubes in a tea towel and place over your eyes for 10-15 minutes. Or try cotton pads soaked in Liz Earle Eyebright Soothing Eye Lotion (from £5.50). Gently pat dry and apply a cooling eye gel, like this one from Organic Surge (£9.25), using your ring finger to tap lightly on the skin. Once the eye gel is absorbed, use a concealer like Garnier BB Cream Skin Perfector Eye roll-on (£9.99), or YSL’s ever-faithful Touche Éclat (£25), which has been hiding puffs for over 20 years and now comes in 7 shades.
Drink a healthy diuretic like green tea to further help de-puff.
