Five out of five

Key features:

-Wireless/bluetooth connectivity
-Up to eight hours’ battery life
-Super-fast charging (five minutes gives you two hours’ playback)

In a nutshell:

Wireless earphones that connect to your smartphone through a Bluetooth connection. The design is sleek and subtle and it folds away into a slick case and comes in four colours.

Why we like it:

Corded earphones are slowly becoming extinct, and if you like listening to music throughout your workout, this can only be good news.

The tricky part is finding a pair that gives you clear sound while also staying put and looking slick – and the BeatsX nails all three.

You get four different sized eartips with the options of ‘wingtips’ which help them stay in place. While the BeatsX isn’t explicitly designed for working out, I tried all kinds of workouts with them and they didn’t let me down once – and yes, that includes burpees!

With the lack of a jack plug comes the issue of battery life – the last thing you want is to be caught out mid -workout (or mid anything) without enough charge, so if you’re the kind of person who forgets to charge their devices, it’s worth forming a new habit for these. The payoff is the convenience and hassle-free nature of wireless earphones. Plus, if you do find your battery flat, you can get an impressive two hours’ playback with just five quick minutes of charge – thanks to the use of the lightning cable charger (same as the iPhone) which comes included.

The details:

-Good-quality sound
-Stay put even through rigorous movement
-Built-in controls and mic to take calls, skip tracks and adjust volume easily
