Walking
You might not consider walking to be new, but what about walking mindfully? Walking is the best form of exercise there is – no special equipment is required, it can be undertaken at all levels, it’s free, and best of all, it lets you see new places. Make it your goal to walk to a new place once a week, or round a different park. This isn’t about simply getting from a to b, but noticing your surroundings and engaging with them. Breathe deeply. See how the leaves on the trees change through the seasons. Listen to the sounds around you. Observe other people going about their day. Become aware of how it feels to walk on different surfaces, as you change from grass to tarmac, for example. Speed up your walking, then slow it right down. An active form of meditation and a simple exercise, the act of walking is one we can all embrace. There’s a great guide here to help guide you through the process.
