Easy pose (or Sukhasana) is a great pose for meditation practice and ideal if you need to chill out

Illustrator Erin and yoga teacher Naomi have combined forces to give you some yoga inspiration to get you onto your yoga mat with beautifully illustrated yoga poses you can practice at home.

This week’s pose and illustration is based on the sixth chakra, the third eye chakra (otherwise known as Ajna chakra). Its colour is indigo.

This chakra is linked with our intuition, insight and how we process that knowledge in our life. When this chakra is in balance we feel a deep sense of trust in our inner guidance and clear in our choices. When out of balance we are foggy and unclear. We doubt ourselves and distrust in life.

Meditation allows us to quiet the mind and tune into our true self. We can let go of distractions and connect to the steadiness of our higher wisdom.

Step 1

Sit on your mat with a folded blanket or firm cushion underneath your sitting bones.

Cross your legs at the shins, allowing your knees to fall out, making sure your ankles feel comfortable.

Your hands can rest on your knees.

Step 2

Lengthen up from the base of the tailbone and feel a sense of reaching up through the crown of the head as the spine elongates.

Slide your shoulders back and down to create space around the neck.

Step 3

Closing your eyes, relax the eyelids and release any tension you could be holding across the brow.

Make sure you are not clenching your teeth by relaxing your jaw and softening the tongue.

Step 4

From here you can begin to practise your meditation. Bring your attention to your breath, follow your inhale and exhale. As you become aware of thoughts popping into your mind try not to attach to them and let them go.

Try to meditate for five minutes to start and build from there. The time limit is endless…the longer the better!!!
