The Pure Ride Performance spin class isn’t just about having a great workout. Oh no. If you want the training experience of an Olympic athlete, then this is the class for you! Pure Ride Performance, designed by British Olympic champion and all round cycling legend Sir Chris Hoy in association with Pure Gym, will leave you with burning glutes and a rider’s high. The class is an intense experience and even though it’s open for riders of all levels, it definitely isn’t for the faint-hearted. If you sign up for this class, get ready to cycle your socks off!
Chris Hoy has used his unique knowledge and experience of professional cycling training to create a class that works your body from head to toe and makes every single minute count. The programme in the class provides riders with power training, endurance training and lactate threshold training, so you experience just a small taste of what it’s like to train like an Olympic athlete.
Situated close to Moorgate tube station, Pure Ride isn’t just your standard spin class. Once inside, you’re provided with towels and clip-in shoes for your bike. The shoes do feel a little strange at first, but once you start cycling you barely notice you’re wearing them. Your bike has a screen in front of you that shows your RPM (Revolutions Per Minute) and resistance level, which you can easily alter with a turn of the dial while you’re riding. Being in control of the resistance level on your bike means you can take it easy if you’re finding the class tough, although you’re encouraged to keep pushing yourself throughout. The instructor at the front of our class was great at keeping everyone motivated and the loud, house-style music, dark room and flashing lights pumped everyone up for a tough and effective session!
The class consists of a variety of short sprints and climbs and longer sprints and climbs that keep your mind focused on the task at hand. In between each harder segment, you’re given time to catch your breath with a gentle cycling section, so when the time comes to cycle hard you’re ready and raring to go. If you enjoy working out to your favourite tunes, then you should try the signature Pure Ride class that incorporates spinning with fun, choreographed dance moves. On the other hand, if you prefer placing greater concentration on pushing yourself past your limit and fine-tuning your spin technique, then Pure Ride Performance is the way to go.
There’s no denying it – your legs will ache and your bum will be sorer than ever. However, ‘no pain no gain’ is one of the oldest rules in the fitness book. You may feel like quitting when you start to feel the burn, but after 45 gruelling minutes of Pure Ride Performance you’ll be well on your way to becoming more toned, fitter and (maybe even) Olympic athlete material!
