How to spice up your Pilates practice

MOTR Pilates

MOTR (or movement on the roller) is a hugely versatile piece of Pilates kit that offers unlimited uses within the practice. What is it? Essentially, it looks like a giant foam roller with resistance bands attached to one end and these can be adjusted to regress or progress your workout. It aims to focus on the key principles of Pilates: alignment, balance, core, control and functional movement patterns – but offers a chance to mix things up. You can sit on it, stand on it, kneel on it – you get the idea – and once in position, use either your bodyweight or the resistance bands to get working those muscles. The added element of balance and the popular addition of familiar moves like crunches, bicep curls, squats, planks and lunges while on the MOTR makes this a core-killing session.
