The festive season is often associated with overindulgence and weight gain, but it’s also a time when you can really supercharge your general wellbeing. ‘Christmas is a period where you should relax and enjoy the things you love. Go easy on your portion sizes and you can still have your treats in moderation,’ advises Upbeat nutritionist Sophie Enever.

1. Get a health upgrade

December is one of the best months of the year to take advantage of all the delicious seasonal fruit and veg on offer. ‘Christmas is a time where dark leafy greens thrive and citrus fruits are at their most juicy – so why not stick some kale into a warming soup, and don’t forget to put a satsuma at the bottom of the stocking,’ says Sophie. Aim to eat a rainbow of fruit and veg, keeping your intake to around seven portions per day.
