Had a long week and looking for a way to wind down this weekend? Read on to see how you can de-stress with PureGym!
PureGym and mental health charity CLASP are coming together on World Mental Health Day to demonstrate the positive effects exercise can have on mental wellbeing. Walking out of Darkness: Mind, Body & Soul will take place on Saturday 10th October in aid of World Mental Health Day and will see a number of PureGym’s across the country running special classes specifically designed to benefit those suffering from ill mental health. 12 PureGym’s – from London to Edinburgh – will be putting on four hours’ worth of classes such as Pilates, Yoga and Zumba; all of which can significantly aid psychological needs.
A staggering 1 in 4 people suffer from mental illness every year and statistics indicate there is one suicide every 90 minutes – a heart-breaking and completely shocking reality. Regular exercise, however, has been proven to assist individuals with mental health problems, – particularly anxiety, depression and stress – as it allows the mind to calm and de-stress, boosts energy and lifts mood.
And you don’t have to be a fitness fanatic or necessarily suffer with mental health difficulties to get involved either – each session is just £5 and you will be part of a great cause in raising awareness of mental health issues and helping end the stigma that surrounds it. Kenny Johnston, Founder & CEO of CLASP, said: ‘As

someone who suffers from mental illness and recovered from a suicide attempt 5 years ago, I know the benefits of physical exercise to assist me in my everyday life. Simple exercises such as walking, cycling and yoga provide me with self-control, calmness and structure to my daily routine, which is often difficult when trying to overcome anxiety, depression and stress.’
Dave Cross, Group Exercise Manager at PureGym, added: ‘Exercise has been shown to have a positive effect on your mental state, as well as the obvious physical benefits. Our tailored schedule on the 10th will provide a calming environment for anyone looking to relieve stress.’ Join us and show your support for the cause – all details below.
