This class requires you to be in #beastmode from start to finish – literally. The Australian-born workout is based on the primal movements push, pull, bend, squat, lunge and locomotion, which are all combined with high-intensity interval training. The moves (more than 100 of them!) are named after the animals that inspired them – for example ‘Gorillas’, ‘Bears’ or ‘Iguanas’. It’s a whole lot more wild than any downward dogs you may have done in the past! The unique fitness concept was founded by fitness enthusiast and expert in human movement Nathan Helberg, who found it life-changing: ‘Before ZUU I was fit and strong but only in singular movements,’ he says. ‘When I tried exercises that worked multiple muscle groups I found my joints were weak and unstable. Channelling these frustrations, I developed a more functional style of training that didn’t involve weights or machines, but used body weight to improve the range of motion and overall strength. The results were incredible, my anaerobic and aerobic thresholds dramatically increased as did my joint mobility, flexibility and lean muscle mass.’ ZUU can burn up to 600 calories in 30 minutes – considerable numbers for those who want to see results fast!
