Yup, that’s right, it’s cycle to work day!

From efficiency to saving pennies, from side-stepping sweaty machine hoggers to the opportunity to enjoy the benefits of the great outdoors, read on to find out why team WHL are big fans of pedal power.

1. It keeps your purse happy

Let’s face it, whether you usually commute by car, train or bus, it’s not cheap. But with two wheels – aside from the initial outlay for the bike and maintenance costs – your journey can be a real penny saver. Plus if you’re swapping an hour on the spin bike for an hour on a real bike, you’re saving yourself the cost of those spin sessions or gym membership, too.

2. It’s easier to fit into your routine

Gym class schedules have to cater for everyone, but that can mean your favourite classes fall at inconvenient times. If you’re cycling to and from work, your workouts can bend to your schedule and commitments. Going out after work? No problem. Find a safe place to leave your bike and you can cycle home the next day.

3. It helps you hit your exercise quota

If your cycle commute takes more than 15 minutes and you do it every day you’ll be hitting the government’s recommended exercise target of 30 minutes, five times a week. Ace!

4. It saves you time

OK so the commute might take slightly longer. But, when you compare that to the time taken to travel to and from your gym, in addition to your usual commute, plus the actual session length, taking on the cycle lane is looking pretty good!

5.It keeps you smiling

All that vitamin D from the extra time outside will boost your mood, plus you’ll benefit from some awesome post-exercise endorphins. And a recent YouGov survey highlighted that one in four people believe Cycle to Work is the best benefit an employer can offer. We agree!
