Here are 5 reasons to book a ski trip now. There’s no better time than the winter holidays to go for a leisurely ski. No Scrooges allowed here – going skiing at this time of the year means completely embracing the Christmas spirit. Eat festive food, feel the rush of adrenaline as you ski down the slopes at (not quite) rocket speed and have a blast with fantastic company. It’s time to hit the slopes!
You’ll get into the Christmas spirit
There’s nothing more festive than spending your Christmas holidays at a ski resort. How many times do you remember ever being treated to a white Christmas at home? You might as well book a ski trip and be merry somewhere that looks vaguely like the North Pole. Rummage around for your Christmas jumpers and furry earmuffs at the back of your wardrobe and get ready to be dazzled with Christmas trees, an infinite amount of fairy lights, delicious food and maybe even a reindeer or two. Make snow angels like you used to when you were five and dance to Christmas tunes until the early hours.
You can ski your way to a fitter bod
Believe it or not, skiing is fantastic exercise. Do you love squatting? Well, skiing is pretty much squatting while in motion. You’ll work your inner and outer thighs, hamstrings, quads and glutes, resulting in stronger lower body muscles. On top of that, you put a lot of weight and tension on your knees when you ski, so you’ll also strengthen your knees. You have to engage your core at all times, so you’ll notice an improvement in your balance, core strength and agility. You’ll also build your flexibility and the endorphins that are released when you ski will boost your mood.
You’ll have a blast
One of the best things about skiing is that in addition to improving your fitness in bucket loads, it’s also a lot of fun. Exercise is always so much better when it’s enjoyable. You’ll barely even notice how sore you feel the next day from speeding down the slopes because all you’ll remember is what an amazing experience it was. Another brilliant thing about going on a ski trip is that it’s the perfect holiday idea for friends, family, or both. So, you’re guaranteed to have a whale of a time no matter who you go with.
You can take in the views
Skiing is one of the more scenic exercises you can do. Not only do you get to whizz down the slopes, but you can also take in the views at the same time. Mounds of white snow, spectacular mountainous views… what more could you possibly want? It’s a nicer prospect to ski surrounded by stunning scenery than it is to stay at home over the winter holidays, only venturing outside to go to the gym for an indoor workout. We know which option we’d choose.
And deck yourself out in ski gear
Let’s be honest – who doesn’t love wearing huge ski jackets, chunky boots and ski goggles? You may feel like an Eskimo wearing such big clothes, but you’ll also feel like you’ve come straight from filming a high speed Alpine chase in an action film. Ski gear comes in such bright and wonderful colours, so you’ll definitely stand out on the slopes.
