Like being on top of your shoe game? We give you guys the first look at the new Adidas PureBOOST X trainers.
Last week saw the release of something a bit special, when a bunch of us took to London King’s Cross underground station for the big reveal. If you’re wondering what we’re on about, it’s Adidas‘ latest and perhaps most beautiful creation yet, the PureBOOST X trainer that has been specially designed for us ladies (can we get a hell yeah?).
The shoe is a far cry from the usual women’s running trainers you’re used to seeing – Adidas hasn’t simply taken a male shoe, shrunken the size and added a touch of pink to it. After three years in the making and 100 prototypes down the line, that couldn’t be further from the truth. The designers at Adidas spent time and effort listening to women all over the world in order to achieve the best female-specific shoe they could. They were constantly in correspondence with those who would be wearing – and hopefully benefitting – from the trainers, such as Adidas athlete and British Olympic hopeful Jodie Williams who helped give feedback on the shoe throughout its creation and is now a firm advocate.
‘But how is a woman’s foot so different from a man’s?’ you may wonder. A woman’s foot is usually narrower in the heel and arch but wider at the ball than a man’s. It makes sense then to have a trainer specifically fitted for these needs rather than simply adapting from a man’s, and Adidas have done just this to bring us the best fit, cushioning and stability that we could ask for.
So what else does it have to offer? Upon first inspection, the PureBOOST X is extremely lightweight (it weighs a mere 184g), petite and flexible. It boasts a new floating arch made from adaptive stretch mesh which not only provides a completely fresh look, but also hugs your foot for a super responsive and supportive running experience. Then, of course, there’s the Boost technology in the midsole – a cushioning foam like no other that has countless women proclaiming they are ‘running on clouds’. We can’t promise clouds, but we can promise that they are probably one of the comfiest pair of kicks you’ll ever lace up. Such technology also means you’ll have energy in every step – we felt particularly springy while wearing ours.
If this isn’t enough to satisfy all your trainer needs, there’s more. The shoe has an elastic Stretch Web rubber outsole which continues the constantly adaptive, personalised nature of the shoe. There’s an air mesh upper for maximum breathability and mesh and synthetic sidewall panels for further stability. In essence, the shoe provides ultimate comfort and support while being flexible enough to allow the foot to maintain its natural motion.
Despite being uber technical, Adidas have certainly not skimped on aesthetics either. They’re sleek, stylish and truly reflective of an active, fashion-conscious woman. Slip them on before that run and you’re sure to ooze confidence and motivation. Seriously, they’re head-turners.
Of the shoe, Jennifer Thomas, Senior Director for Global Brands, Running, said: ‘The most common feedback we received during our years of working with female athletes was the desire for a running shoe with looks to keep up with the energy of its performance. PureBOOST X is a product of innovation and style working in perfect harmony to meet the demands of today’s versatile female athlete.’
The Adidas PureBOOST X are now available online from adidas.co.uk for £90 or in stores from February 3rd.
