Best for newbie runners
The Garmin Forerunner 10 (£99.99, garmin.com) is the perfect entry-level running watch. It’s no frills, making it easy to use – five minutes of playing around is all you’ll need to work out how to use every function. The large buttons making scrolling through the options really straight-forward, so you can check different stats while you’re on the run, plus the lightweight and compact design means you’ll hardly notice you’re wearing it. My only gripe was that it can take a little time to pick up a GPS signal, delaying the start of the run. But because I love everything else about it, I can let that slip.
Key features: GPS, timer screen showing speed and distance, virtual pacer, average pace and speed, notifies you of a personal record, GarminConnect.
Why we love it: not only is it so easy to use, but it’s also affordable and doesn’t swamp your wrist.
