We know the white stuff is bad for us and unfortunately it’s lurking in more places than you might realise. Try these 5 tips to go sugar free to win the battle against the sweet stuff.
1. Identify the sources of sugar in your diet, hidden and the obvious. This means you will be able to combat the ‘Sugar Trap’ and will know which foods to avoid (even thought they might not be obvious!).
2. Question your craving. Are you thirsty? Bored? Or hormonal? Most times sugar isn’t the true need and more like the cover-up giving short-lived relief.
3. Sugar causes health problems, weight gain and even premature ageing, but the idea of giving it up can seem daunting. Sugar is highly addictive, so withdrawal symptoms are normal. The good news is, you don’t have to give up ‘sweet’ foods altogether, you can switch to a natural alternative such as Palmyra Jaggery. By making the switch, you’ll be able to indulge your sweet tooth, without the negative side effects.

4. Stay hydrated without sugar, incorporate herbal teas and creative water, try fresh lemon, cucumber, grapefruit or lime for a natural lift.
5. Where possible make your own. Whether it’s healthier baking with slow release wholegrain flours, and veggies or making your own sauces and dressings. This is half the sugar-free battle, readymade anything, usually means added preservatives, salt and of course refined sugar.
