Looking to take up a new sport to revive your fitness this summer? We’d suggest getting your sweatbands and badminton racket at the ready and get involved in A Big Badminton Summer.
A Big Badminton Summer is the new campaign by Badminton England, set up to help motivate people to take part in more sports. Their aim is to increase the country’s activity levels and change people’s mindsets on playing sports by giving them the opportunity to take part in the world’s most-played racket sport. Looking beyond just the indoor court, the campaign highlights the number of fun ways in which you can enjoy badminton, whether that’s in the garden, a park or the beach. A Big Badminton Summer also seeks to give families the chance to pick up a racket and experience the thrill of the sociable and accessible sport.
With the huge build-up of excitement for the Olympics already in full swing, what better time to get yourself involved in a new sport? Badminton is set to be a serious medal opportunity for Team GB and Badminton England will be working with a variety of partners to deliver pop-up, family–friendly activities across the country, focusing on four central badminton hotspots: London, Manchester, Birmingham and Milton Keynes.
Commenting on the new campaign, Julia Strong, Badminton England’s National Game Director, said: ‘This is a really exciting time for Badminton England as an organisation, as well as badminton as a sport.’ She adds, ‘With the feats of an Olympic summer as our backdrop, we’re highlighting the many fun different ways you can play badminton so young and old can get involved in this fun and sociable activity.’
Get ready to experience the great outdoors with Badminton England. It’s time to swap that TV remote for your badminton racket this summer and practise those serves. See you on the court!
