There are hundreds of superfoods doing the health food shop rounds at the moment, but one of our real faves is baobab powder. This humble powder packs a real punch when it comes to nutrients and can be added to everything from porridge to ice cream! Here’s a little bit more about this unusual foodie hit…

What exactly is baobab?
The citrusy tasting powder comes from the Baoba bfruit. ‘Baobab is an iconic tree that grows in Africa and is known as ‘The Tree of Life’,’ explains Andrew Hunt, Co-Founder of Aduna. ‘The baobab fruit is the only fruit that dries naturally on the branch. To get the powder simply harvest, remove the seeds and sieve to create a nutrient-dense raw wholefood. It is 100% pure fruit in its natural form.’

What health benefits does baobab have?
Baobab is a powerhouse of nutrients! ‘Baobab fruit is one of the most nutrient-dense raw wholefoods in the world. It is the highest-ranking fruit in the antioxidant table, is almost 50% fibre and is an exceptionally rich source of vitamin C, calcium, potassium and thiamin.’ Impressive, huh? And this leads to lots of benefits for your wellbeing. ‘The most noticeable benefits are improved energy, immune health, digestive health and skin health,’ says Andrew. You’d be mad to miss out!

What’s the best way to include baobab in your diet?
One of our fave things about this amazing superfood is that it’s really easy to incorporate into your diet. Plus it tastes great! ‘One of the great things about baobab is that it actually tastes nice – a bit like sherbet,’ says Andrew. The taste is quite citrusy, like a combination of pear, grapefruit, caramel and vanilla. Yum! ‘It comes as a naturally formed powder, so we usually blend it into smoothies or juices or use it as a healthy sweetener to sprinkle on yoghurt, porridge or muesli,’ says Andrew. And it’s great for sweet treats, too. ‘It’s also a rising agent so you can use it in baking and it makes fantastic ice cream.’

Where can you buy it?
Most good health stores will sell it or you can buy it online at aduna.co.uk in sachets, tubs and capsules.
