Top up your protein levels at brekkie with egg whites

Egg whites are the breakfast staple of many a gym bunny – seeing many a yolk hitting the bin – so what’s so great about this seemingly humble protein source?

Well, the white part of the egg is high in protein and low in fat, making it an ideal fuel for those who want to add muscle or cut fat. Plus you can cook them into all sorts of breakfast, from scrambled eggs to omelettes.

‘But what about the yolk?’ I hear you cry. A lot of people avoid the yolk because it contains all the fat, but it also contains all the nutrients – vitamin A, vitamin d and vitamin B12 and a good hit of omega-3!

So it’s up to you whether you want to go yolk-free or not, but here at WHL we’re big fans of eating the whole egg. It tastes better, you get all those health-boosting nutrients and you don’t have to fiddle around perfecting your yolk-removal technique first thing in the morning.

However, if you do want to stick to the whites, without the fiddly yolk removal, check out liquid egg whites from Two Chicks, £3, Tesco stores – it’s pourable egg white in a carton!
