Pea protein – what is it?

Protein is a great way to fuel your workouts and refuel afterwards. Since it can be tricky to get your fill from food, many people turn to protein powders and shakes to top up. However many powders and shakes come with not so welcome additions, such as sugar and extra carbs – not great if your goal is to lose weight – and these can trigger intolerances and allergies in those that struggle with dairy, soya and gluten.
Pea protein is a relatively low-carb and low-fat protein powder, and is packed with amino acids and Branched Chain Amino Acids (BCAAs), which can help to keep you going through a workout, delaying fatigue. Helping you crank through those squats, even when your legs think they’ve had enough!
This plant-based protein is made from split yellow (or golden) peas and is dairy and soya free (but check the labels), so perfect for those with allergies or intolerances.
