If you normally shy away from greens, then this is perfect for you

Winter doesn’t conjure up visions of healthy salads, more stodgy comfort food. Here are 5 ways to eat well in the English winter from foodie Harriet Emily

As much as I enjoy the childhood thrill of seeing fresh snow on the ground, I’m really not a winter person. I would much rather be spending my time right now, out in the summer sun catching a good tan. However, living in England leaves me with having to make the most of the freezing winter months. Usually around this time, I’ve forgotten all about healthy salads, and am just craving comfort food. 1. Boost your breakfasts

One easy way to fill you up in the morning, as well as adding in some extra nutrients, is to top your breakfast with an extra helping of fruit or vegetables. Topping up your bowl of porridge, yoghurt or cereal with some fresh berries, or with a side of orange slices is a great way to satisfy your sweet tooth, as well as give yourself a good boost of antioxidants – perfect for flu season. If you’re craving something savoury, add some red onion, kale or spinach into an omelette, or roast some tomatoes and serve them on toast. With vegetables, flavour is key, so if you aren’t used to their taste in the morning, finish them off with some lime juice or chilli flakes.
