Want to boost your glow? Our beauty expert has the perfect fix. We chat to Malvina Fraser – facialist to stars including Madonna, Yasmin Le Bon and Suranne Jones – to get her top tips for a glowing complexion.
Get scrubbing
Exfoliation is the first step to getting that glow sorted. ‘Exfoliate two to three times a week to rid the skin of dead skin cells,’ advises Malvina. It’s the best way to reveal the fresh skin beneath. ‘Try this DIY home exfoliator for a brighter glow,’ says Malvina. ‘Mix together 2tbsp of salt and the juice from half a lemon. Once the mixture is ready, rub it across the whole face in circular motions and rinse with warm water.’
Love your liquids
Letting yourself get dehydrated can play havoc with your complexion. ‘Drink between 6-8 cups of water a day, says Malvina. Keep a large water bottle on your desk and refill it whenever the level drops below a third full. ‘Or go that one step further and swap regular water for coconut water, which includes electrolytes containing sodium and potassium salts which replenish the body.’
Slap on some moisture
Good-quality moisturisers, oils and serums are a must for a glowing complexion. ‘I would recommend using a good quality face oil or serum to maintain a healthy glow,’ says Malvina. Oils are particularly nourishing and a re great of you suffer from dry skin. And serums are a great option if your regular moisturiser isn’t cutting it. ‘Serumsare water-based treatments which contain a much higher concentration of active ingredients and nutrients such as Vitamin C, E and K. The molecules in serums are smaller than those in a moisturiser, giving them the ability to penetrate through the pores and deep beneath the skin’s epidermis absorbing all those good ingredients and nutrients deep within the skin’s layers, where it is needed most,’ says Malvina.
Get the pros in
If you’re skin is in need of some serious TLC to coax out that glow, head to a good spa or beauty clinic. ‘One of my most popular treatments is the skin rejuvenation, which brings about a gorgeous glow,’ say Malvina. It’s a real treat for your skin, plus it’s a great excuse for you to chill out and relax.
