Trying to stay on the straight and narrow with your nutrition? These 5 ways to make healthy eating more fun are sure to help

It’s clear that as a nation, we’re beginning to become more interested in healthy eating. However, for many of us, it can still be a struggle to get a grip on. Hopefully these five tips will help you find ways to make healthy eating more fun.

1. Try something new

Most of us, including myself, shy away from the thought of eating vegetables we’re unfamiliar with. However, they’re a key part of our diet and definitely something we should enjoy. So, to make vegetables more exciting, I like to buy at least one type I haven’t tried before when I go for my weekly food shop – last week it was Swiss chard, and I haven’t looked back since.

2. Be prepared

Being a home cook, nothing makes me happier than making dishes from scratch. We’ve all had that afternoon sugar craving, often causing us to turn to a bar of chocolate or bag of sweets. So, to avoid the temptation of unhealthy snacks, I like to prepare my own healthy versions. Making a batch of energy bars or your own trail mix for the week ahead is a quick and easy way to make your snacking healthier.

Then when it comes to main meals, you can’t go wrong sprinkling some hemp, sunflower or pumpkin seeds onto your plate for some decoration and added crunch.

3. Make smoothies

Making a smoothie for your morning drink is not only easy, but also gives you a great start to the day. I love to choose a mixture of my favourite fruits and vegetables. Just blending them into a drink is enough to satisfy my sweet tooth as well as giving me an energy boost greater than any artificial energy drink could.

4. Add superfoods

When I think of superfoods, I think of powders and sprinkles. When making your breakfast smoothie, try adding some acai powder or maca powder. I love using these as they give a great colour boost to your drink as well as providing plenty of nutrients. Then when it comes to main meals, you can’t go wrong sprinkling some hemp, sunflower or pumpkin seeds onto your plate for some decoration and added crunch.

5. Reward yourself

One of my favourite ways to enjoy healthy eating is to allow myself the odd treat. Not only is it a great way to stay motivated, but it can also keep your naughty cravings at bay. For me, it’s all about chocolate – nothing beats a bar every now and then. So don’t be afraid to munch on your favourite treat when needs be.
