Unicorn

Chorlton, Manchester

Everything about this store, from the smell of fresh, organic produce as you walk through the door to the friendly, chatty staff on the checkouts, is wonderful. Unicorn offers a huge range of affordable, wholesome food with a focus on organic, fair-trade and local sourcing. Ethical principles remain at the core of the business and influence not only what is sold but also how business is done. As a workers’ co-operative, the shop is owned and managed by the people who work in it, and they have done an incredible job of creating a place that’s genuinely enjoyable to wander around. Alongside the beautiful array of organic fruit and veg you’ll find shelves stacked with pulses, grains, nuts, dried fruits and spices, providing the basis for really good-value meals. They also stock an ever expanding selection of environmentally friendly baby products, cosmetics and household goods made from natural ingredients – and their deli counter with freshly made savouries and cakes is to die for!
