Virgin Active are upping their gymming experience with the new Fitness 5 workout, which uses 5 hot bits of kit to take you to fat-burning heaven

We’re always searching for an ultimate full-body workout and these pieces of multi-functional fitness equipment are said to be the answer. Introducing the Bulgarian Bags, TRX Rip Trainer, Battle Ropes, TiYR and Plyo Boxes. Suitable for gym-goers of all levels, they promise to transform full-body conditioning, strength, flexibility and overall fitness endurance.

They can be used on their own, combined with bodyweight exercises or even all together in a circuit if you really want to push yourself. It might just be worth going that extra mile; used together you could pound away at up to 750 calories an hour!

Personal trainer Emma Bord explains how each piece of equipment is effective.

1. Bulgarian Bags

The Bulgarian Bag was designed by Bulgarian Olympic athlete Ivan Ivanov, who was in search of something that could strengthen his core muscles and develop quickness in a way that solid weights and resistance machines couldn’t. They’re especially useful if you want to work on your power, stability and dynamic strength.

Emma says: ‘These are great for a full-body workout, providing both resistance and a cardiovascular challenge, in addition to significantly working the core. They are also easy to hold and straightforward to use.’
