Empowerment through mindfulness
Empowerment through mindfulness could be just the life boost you’re after.
On the path to empowerment, mindfulness can be one of the most important building blocks. Mindfulness is the name given to the concept of being attentive to the present moment. It’s an awareness of our internal and external state at any given time.
This practice allows people to step back from their thoughts and view them objectively. All too often, we find ourselves being caught up in our stream of consciousness. Expert Dana Zelicha has written on this topic. She’s provided tips on how to become more mindful through meditation, planning and even digital detoxes. Through this, we are able to connect with our inner selves and live a more balanced and healthy life.
Breaking the bounds of society
In Zelicha’s writing she states that a driven woman should focus on her own wants, her own needs and what she desires out of her life, regardless of societal expectations. So, whatever your wants and needs – family, work, social life – mindfulness can help to achieve your goals by allowing you to focus on your inner thoughts in the moment.
Be clear in your goals
Do you often feel conflicted and unsure of what you want? Do you know how you can balance what you strive for with other aspects of your life? Mindfulness can help you to visualise and think about your goals without worrying about external factors. Self-doubt and insecurity are common in the modern world, but we do not have to be weighed down by them. Focusing on the now helps alleviate the stress and anxiety many people cannot help but feel surrounding the uncertainty of the future. Through mindfulness, the next few years may not seem quite so scary, as you are able to deal with problems when and where they arise in a calm and collected manner, instead of panicking.
The multitasking myth
The stereotype of women as multitasking masters has often been viewed as a compliment, something that allows us to feel superior to our male counterparts. In fact, a study from the Michigan State University revealed that women multitask on average 10 hours more per week then men. But don’t feel too proud. The reality is that we are actually less efficient when we multitask, and more likely to make mistakes. The study showed a reduction in the productivity of the multitaskers by a staggering 40 per cent! So, if you want to be a more focused, high performing individual, practice a little mindfulness and become a ‘unitasker’.
Prioritise you
Contrary to popular belief, it’s not selfish to be clear with what you want and how you want to achieve it. Zelicha stresses that you cannot take care of others if you don’t take care yourself first. Mindfulness can be a great way to work towards better self-love and care. Be empowered through your own acknowledgement of yourself and what you want out of your life, and take the time to truly realise what that is. Spend the rest of your day focusing on the little things, take one task at a time, and go out there and get what you want!
