How to eat out healthily? Just keep reading…

Summer is great for a lot of reasons, and not least because a number of our favourite restaurants have released new, healthy menus just in time for the sunshine season. From household favourites to new kids on the block, eateries across the country are upping their game this summer. Not that we’re surprised: the UK has made strides in recent years to accommodate our ever-growing range of dietary requirements and food preferences. Healthy eating no longer needs to fall by the wayside as soon as we dine out; we now have a wealth of restaurants on our doorstep offering tasty meals that are as nutritious as they are tasty. Here are the restaurants we’ll be eating at this summer.

Zizzi

Zizzi’s new spring menu is its most flexible yet, offering more delicious Italian-inspired dishes and dietary options than anyone else on the high street. New dishes include lightly battered Prawn Zucchini Bites with lemon and rosemary aioli, Pan-fried Seabass Fillets with zingy lemon and herb Salsa Verde, a slow-roasted garlic and rosemary Shoulder of Lamb and a Capia Pepper Pesto base pizza. If that doesn’t whet your appetite, a Sticky Chocolate and Praline Torte served with coconut and chocolate ripple gelato (gluten-free and suitable for vegans, no less) might. But it isn’t all indulgence. All of the meat and fish dishes on the new menu offer more choice of sides and are available served with fried herby potatoes and green beans or a Green Goddess and Isle of Wight mixed tomato summer salad – flexibility that offers diners the option of making each dish less than 600 calories. Now that’s tasty.

Starbucks

Need to refuel on the go? Starbucks‘ breakfast egg hot boxes might hit the spot. The new offerings are now available across the UK in two different varieties: Super Scrambled Eggs with Tomato and Spinach or Spicy Chorizo, Potato and Poached Egg. Fancy a coffee to go with it? The brand has also expanded its dairy-free alternatives to include almond alongside soya and coconut. One hundred per cent plant-based, when requested in a latte, going almond contains 49 per cent less calories, 38 per cent less fat and 47 per cent fewer sugars than a tall size latte with semi-skimmed milk.

Café Rouge

Not ones to miss a beat, Café Rouge has also unveiled a new menu inspired by the upcoming seasons. Executive chef Bruno Balle has travelled across France – from Calais to Corsica – sourcing the best ingredients and suppliers to create their new à la carte dishes and set menus. Beloved French classics receive a British twist with new seasonal flavours at the heart of the menu. Celebrating the fresh, in-season produce and springtime flavours, the new Spring Set Menu from £10.95 for two courses includes Terrine de Jambon – a ham hock, pea and mustard terrine with shallot and raisin chutney – Steak Frites and Tarte de Printemps, a homemade shortcrust party tart with confit shallots, Emmental cheese, goat’s cheese and sundried tomatoes. The à la carte options too boast new flavours, including a Niçoise Salad made with sustainably sourced chargrilled yellow fin tuna steak, Lamb Cassoulet inspired by the province of Languedoc, and the vegan Tagine bursting with the spices of North Africa.

Farmstand

Fast, casual food needn’t be unhealthy. Farmstand‘s breakfast, lunch and dinners offerings boast high-quality, wholesome ingredients that are sustainably and UK sourced, largely from British farms. Not only do they provide extensive dietary options including meat, fish, vegetarian and vegan, they also offer the chance for diners to customise their own meals. The Build Your Own box has up to 52,000 menu combinations so your meals never need to be the same. Expect Harissa chicken, onion squash with corn and heritage tomatoes, split fava beans with peppers and pumpkin, and salmon with herb oil and pea shoots. Farmstand’s menu is also completely free from refined sugar, gluten, dairy, hormones and antibiotics. Enjoy at their flagship Covent Garden restaurant or have it delivered to your desk or home.
