Tibits salutes the arrival of summer by creating London’s first vegan afternoon tea and we couldn’t be more delighted about it.
Whether it’s health reasons, ethics or just personal preference, being vegan can sometimes make certain social gatherings a bit of a pain. Take the relaxing experience of afternoon tea for example. Once they’ve taken out the butter, cream and eggs, there’s not much left to munch on! That’s why Tibits, London’s awarding winning vegetarian and vegan restaurant, have listened to our woes and created something wonderful. As part of their new summer menu, Tibits are proud to introduce the capital’s first vegan afternoon tea.
The Tibits Tea is made up of well-loved afternoon tea classics such as traditional scones, delicious cakes and delicate finger sandwiches. Using inventive ways to recreate old-time favourites, you can expect to get stuck into mouth-watering lemon drizzle cake and a selection of delicious ciabatta finger sandwiches from ‘Mock-Tuna Mousse’ to Cucumber, Carrot and Horseradish Pate. Of course, afternoon tea isn’t complete without the tea itself so why not refresh with a variety of tempting drinks on offer? Whether you fancy a cool juice, an organic herbal tea or even a glass of (vegan) bubbles there’s sure to be something to quench your thirst.
If you’d rather have something more substantial then you have the option of ordering from the new Taste of the Sea Summer Menu. The concept behind the new menu is to enable diners to travel their taste buds around the world in 40 vegetarian and vegan salads, along with a scrumptious selection of hot and cold dishes and decadent desserts. Everything on offer is made daily to ensure the freshest of tastes. This is enhanced by the use of seasonal, high grade, largely organic and locally sourced ingredients usually found on the rooftop of the restaurant. We love how the rooftop garden also creates an urban oasis for local bees.
By reading the menu it’s clear to see the restaurant has been inspired by the seas across the world from the warm waters of the Mediterranean to the oceans of Asia. Expect to find the likes of celeriac tonnato, wakame glass noodle salad and vegetable ceviche. It’s also the perfect place to indulge in a dessert or two without having to worry about the welfare of animals at the same time; our favourite is the raspberry cheesecake.
Allergy sufferers will be delighted at the introduction of a coded symbol card for every dish on the ‘food boat’ stating if something contains gluten, wheat or soy, enabling customers to choose their meal in line with dietary requirements, preferences, intolerances and allergies.
Along with plenty of tempting dishes, Tibits will be serving a range of tantalising tipples which makes us very happy. New on the summer menu is the ‘Strawberry Stardust’ cocktail inspired by the one and only David Bowie. The legend posed for the cover of his album ‘Ziggy Stardust’ outside 23 Heddon Street which is where the restaurant is located. The cocktail is mixed using vodka, Aperol, Tibits strawberry mint juice, a dash of lemon and then topped up with tonic water. For the tee-totallers there’s a refreshing new Botanical lemonade on offer that’s the perfect zesty palate cleanser.
Boasting over 15 years’ experience in creating modern vegetarian flavourful dishes, veggies and carnivores alike are bound to enjoy the culinary delights created here and it may well do their health the world of good too! Experts have agreed that reducing meat from your diet, preferably in the form of veganism or vegetarianism, could actually add nearly four years to your life expectancy!
So what are you waiting for? Get yourself down to Regent Street this summer for a veggie feast unlike any other! Tibits Vegan Tea is available between 3-6pm and priced a la carte by weight: £2.40/100 grams for all items except cakes, which are £2 each.
