New gym: Alex Fitness
New gym: Alex Fitness. Fresh from across the pond, we try out this exciting new gym!
Looking for a new fitness hangout? It’s time to check out Alex Fitness! With over 70 fitness clubs across Russia and the USA, Alex Fitness is certainly a big name across the pond. Now, its waves are creeping onto UK turf. Opening up in Imperial Wharf (SW6) in April, the gym has quickly been making a name for itself. Why? It’s been labelled a ‘new generation gym’ and we can certainly see why. Sleek, modern interiors, specialist studio classes, flexible membership options and in-built technology that allows you to track your training in a whole new way has made this gym a new WHL fave immediately.
Rather than choosing between expensive, premium facilities, boring, budget gyms and boutique studios specialising in one thing, Alex Fitness offers it all (and more) under one roof. What’s not to like?
The classes
Alex Fitness isn’t your regular gym. Here, you can enjoy a multitude of classes all in specialised, top of the range studios. An impressive team of professional athletes and personal trainers teach each class (some even train and teach at international level). Land some punches in the MMA & Boxing Studio where classes include MMA, Muay Thai, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, boxing and BabeBox – a women-only boxing class run by a professional female fighter – or even take up spinning in the Pro Cycling Studio. If your fitness regime leans towards workouts such as CrossFit and Rig Fit, Alex Fitness can cater to this too with the Power Zone Studio, containing a fully functional rig and the latest weightlifting equipment. Still not satisfied? Barre, yoga and Pilates classes are also available in the Flex & Core Studio.
The facilities
Alex Fitness’s facilities are where the gym really shines. Attention to detail and clear forward-thinking has resulted in each respective studio becoming the perfect space for that activity. The dedicated MMA and boxing studio, for example, includes a purpose built frame housing a fully padded, caged ground work area for pro-style training alongside high-end equipment, while the Pro Cycling Studio is the closest a spinning studio has ever come to an outdoor session, with immersive jungle imagery projected onto the walls. The studio is also powered by the latest high-tech, magnetic resistance Technogym spin bikes that will track and compare your training like never before.
Another futuristic and impressive highlight is the fully integrated fitness cloud technology, which provides members with a key that gives seamless access to everything across the club, from access to the gym floor and all cardio and resistance equipment to opening lockers in the changing rooms. The cloud technology syncs with all major fitness apps, allowing you to track and record progress the way you like best. Oh, and the gym has a sauna. Just saying…
The verdict
A must-visit. With such a wide range of classes, top of the range equipment and a clever membership system (members only pay for what they use allowing gym-goers the opportunity to create bespoke fitness programmes suited to their goals and lifestyle), it’s everything you need in a gym and more.
Club membership starts from £45 a month. For more information, visit alex-fitness.co.uk
