Let’s put the brakes on cancer! That’s exactly the attitude of the ladies who take part in Women V Cancer Ride the Night. It’s a fun, exciting and inspirational ride that is now officially the biggest female cycling event in the UK.
The event starts and ends at Royal Windsor Racecourse and follows a 100K route through London as thousands of women join together to ride through the night. For many women, this will be their third time taking part in Ride the Night, and who can blame them? With the chance to ride through the deserted streets of London surrounded by fellow enthusiastic women, it makes sense that many participants would return every year!
As the event’s popularity has continued to rise over the last few years, many celebrities wanted to get in on the action. Last year, BBC news presenter Naga Munchetty led the ride and this year, Countdown leading ladies Rachel Riley and Susie Dent will be opening the event. Rachel had many great things to say about Ride the Night: “I’ve been told by many different women who’ve taken part before how much fun Ride the Night is and their enthusiasm has rubbed off! I love cycling and having a challenge to train for is a great motivator. Ride the Night is for such a great cause, it’s perfect.”
Women come together from all different walks of life with one very common goal – to fight cancer until it has been defeated once and for all. Whether you’re a cancer survivor, you know someone who has suffered from cancer, or you’re riding in memory of a loved one, one thing’s for sure – this ride will definitely make you realise that you are not alone.
This year’s Ride the Night has the potential to be the most successful yet. Over 3,000 women have signed up and over £125,000 has already been raised in aid of three cancer charities: Ovarian Cancer Action, Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust and Breast Cancer Care.
Due to popular demand, entries for the 2016 Women V Cancer Ride the Night, taking place on the evening of Saturday 28th May, are now closed. However, all’s not lost! If you really can’t wait to sign up, then you can plan ahead for next year and enter Ride the Night 2017 now!
