We want to know why everyone’s talking about the Korean skincare regime.

Striving for perfect skin is a struggle we’ve all been through. We’ve tried dozens of different beauty products, but when there are countless products on the market for all types of skin – dry, sensitive, ‘normal’ – it’s difficult to know where to start.

Looking after your skin carefully and thoroughly is an integral part of Korean culture. We treat skincare like it’s a luxury, whereas in Korea they treat it as a way of life. It’s believed that taking good care of your skin can contribute towards your overall wellbeing. Korean women have inspired the beauty world with their flawless complexions, which is why everyone’s talking about the Korean skincare regime.

Since the popularity of Korean skincare products has surged, these products have become more accessible to women in the west, with brands such as Erborian, a Korean and French skincare brand, at the forefront promoting the Korean beauty regime across the globe. As Katalin Berenyi, president and co-founder of Erborian, realised: ‘Women all over the world have one thing in common: a beauty that is unique, genuine and natural.’

The concept of the Korean skincare regime revolves around the application of ‘layers’ of products in a specific order. The number of these steps can range drastically, from eight steps to as many as 17 steps. Erborian has outlined eight steps within its three-step philosophy: ‘detox, boost and refine’.

Following these many steps every morning and every evening may seem tedious, but in order to maintain healthy skin, you should be spending as much time taking off your makeup as you do putting it on. Very soon, following these steps won’t even require much thought, as it’ll become part of your natural daily routine. Here are the steps for the Korean skincare regime and some brilliant products that will transform your skin and give you a gorgeous glow!

Detox

Cleanser

Cleansing will rid your skin of impurities and leave you feeling refreshed. First, gently massage a light cleanser, such as the Cleansing Cream, onto the face. Then, use a water-based product, such as the Solid Cleansing Oil, to remove any remaining makeup from the face.

Toner

This is a vital step of the process to hydrate your skin. Toner supposedly balances the pH of the skin and prepares your skin to accept the other products that come after it in the regime. Apply a toner, such as the Herbal Energy Lotion, generously with your hands and then finish by tapping the toner into your skin.

Boost

Serum/Essence

Typically, the lighter version is called an essence, while the richer version is called a serum. If you use an essence, such as the Pearl Aura Brightening Essence you will first pat it onto the face after toning. Then, sweep it in an upward motion across the cheeks and forehead.

Eye cream

It is so important when applying any product near the eyes to be as gentle as you possibly can. Dab and pat a cream, such as Whitening Pore Cream to eliminate bags and dark circle problems.

Face oil

Apply a face oil, such as The Green Tea Seed Oil so your face won’t shine during the day. Face oil is especially effective during the winter or if you’re prone to having dry facial skin.

Moisturiser

Using a moisturiser, such as the Duo De Camellia, will seal in the hydration in your skin that you’ve applied with the previous products. For the nighttime ritual, use a night cream such as Ginseng Infusion Night instead. The night cream is richer than the morning version, as the proteins in the cream help the density of your skin overnight.

Refine

SPF

During the day, you must provide your skin with sun protection, even if it’s not that sunny outside. Applying a product with SPF protection, such as the Correct and Care CC Cream will also give your skin light coverage.

Make-up

Now that you’ve completed the regime, it’s time to apply your make-up! Your skin is prepped and ready to look fabulous and radiant for the day ahead.
