How to get glam this winter

With Christmas and New Year comes the parties. Whether you’re heading to an office party or a New Year’s Eve bash, this is the best time of year to get creative with make-up, as pretty much anything goes. It’s a great excuse to use that sparkly eyeshadow, or the deeper shade of red lippy that’s sitting in your make-up bag, which might look a little too daring for any other time of year.

Bold eyes are key for this season’s party-perfect look. The ever popular smokey eye is back again, but with an added touch of glitter for a more glamorous look. Make-up artist, Hannah Sorcha, whose clients include TopShop and Rimmel, says: ‘It’s that time of year when I get out my shimmer. Christmas means sparkles and glitter. It’s the only time of year that I tend to go slightly heavier with my make-up. Nothing’s better for the party season than a bold eye look. It’s all about smokey eyes, liner and lashes, and if strip lashes aren’t your thing then try cluster ones near the edge – to add some oomph to your eyes.’ For those who want a little more colour, graphic peepers are key – as seen on the Dior A/W15 catwalk earlier this year, where creative director Peter Phillips used a palette of strong shades to create graphic eye lines. It’s also time to bring out the lipstick for more colourful look. Hannah says: ‘I prefer to match up a strong eye with a nude lip, but if nude isn’t your thing – go wild with a festive bold red or berry lip. So in this season!’

To put together a great party look, here are three YouTube tutorials to help you stand out:

Chloe Morello – Smoked out glittery greens

Chloe shows us the technique to get a look perfect for a night out or a New Year’s Party as she combines three key trends in one shimmering look: colour, glitter and a smokey eye. Chloe’s make-up look is colourful but at the same time gives off a sultry vibe to create a glamorous yet rock n’ roll feel which could make anyone feel ready to party.

Tanya Burr – Emma Watson Christmas party tutorial

YouTube superstar Tanya Burr opts for a less glittery but nonetheless fabulous make-up look to help us achieve two make-up goals: to get the same look as Emma Watson AND to look great for a Christmas party. Tanya uses autumnal purple shades for a bold and colourful eye and adds a bright pop of colour to the lips. To top it off, Tanya shows us how to get flawless, glowing skin to create a look perfect for an office Christmas party.

Pixiwoo – my favourite lipsticks

Sisters and make-up artists Sam and Nicole make up Pixiwoo and Sam shows us in this tutorial her favourite lipsticks and how to wear them. From nude to bright red, Sam picks out lipsticks that can help add the final touch to any party make-up look. For anyone wearing a bold eye and wanting a more subtle lip colour, Sam shows the best nude colours to go for. Sam also shows great pink and red lipsticks for those who are after a bolder lip colour. This tutorial is perfect for anyone this Christmas and New Year, as it shows a variety of lip-looks suitable for every party or event.
