Working up a sweat the Chelsea way…

South West London is now as well-known for its juice bars, boutique gyms and clean-eating hubs as it is for its billionaires and flash cars.

So WHL co-founder Ellie Moss hopped on the Piccadilly line to check out what Fulham Road favourite Lomax has to offer.

Regularly spotted on the Instagram feeds of super-fit bods from Mille Mackintosh to Zanna Dan VijkLomax is a one-stop shop for all things wellness. It’s high-end and it’s beautifully done out but the real appeal of Lomax is that these guys really know what they’re doing when it comes to building fit, healthy bodies.

And their offering is comprehensive. In their small, but perfectly formed premises, you can do everything from PT sessions to classes, reformer pilates and pre and post-natal clasees – Bumps and Burpees is ideal yummy mummy territory – as well as nutritional therapy, physiotherapy, sports massage and diet plans.

The business started with home visits then developed into their signature ‘pod’ gym system – each PT and client are designated a pod in the gym in which to work and these awesome little pods contain everything you could possibly need for a PT session, from spin bikes to TRXs they’ve got the lot.

It was clear Jordan wasn’t going to put up with any of my pathetic excuses

After meeting Jordan my PT for the session – an ex semi-pro footballer and huge hulk of a guy – we talked through my fitness goals (lose the summer pounds and get some strength back asap!) and got stuck into a thorough warm-up.

After a lazy summer I was feeling pretty out of shape, but it was clear Jordan wasn’t going to put up with any of my pathetic excuses (I’ve got DOMs, I’m out of shape, etc – I know, I’m a nightmare!) and we got straight into some intense super sets.

Jordan is a real stickler for form and quality, something that as a former gymnastics coach, I always respect in any sports/fitness coach. And by insisting on good alignment and encouraging me to slow my movements down he made me work harder than I have in months.

Finishing with a super set of pistol squats and deadlifts was particularly horrific – in the best possible way. I knew there and then that walking might be interesting for the next few days!

After sweating it out on the gym floor I headed over to the Performance Clinic at Lomax (Lomax and Complete Physio have come together to create London’s leading integrated physiotherapy and sports injury clinic) for a well-earned massage. Not only was that session enough to warrant a week of massages, I’d also been killing it the gym that week, and lugging a heavy rucksack around, so my upper body was crying out for a pummelling!

And I pummelling I got! There’s nothing worse than a gentle massage when you’re muscles need a good going over, so I’m pleased to report that massuer Alan did an awesome job of getting stuck into all those nasty knots and really working through the tight spots on my neck, shoulder and lower back.

Finishing with a super set of pistol squats and deadlifts was particularly horrific

I left feeling lighter and much more mobile! To top of my visit in style I popped downstairs to the super-chic super-healthy cafe – a real health-nut’s idea of heaven – and scoffed a delicious pile of buckwheat protein pancakes with banana and nut butter. Yum.

If I didn’t live on completely the other side of town I’d be here every day. Lomax is the perfect hub for the health conscious and I can see why they attract an all-star crowd.

Can’t get there? Lomax PTs will come to you – in the office, at home or in your local park. Amazing, right? I’m sold!
