The best winter spa treatments

If winter wasn’t made for spa treatments, we don’t know what was. It’s a time of year when your skin could really do with some TLC (cold weather and central heating, we’re looking at you). But there’s also nothing nicer than visiting a spa on a frosty winter’s day. From facials to massages, there’s a wealth of treatments out there to treat your winter woes. At this time of year many of them also include a number of gorgeously festive fragrances, too. Here, we’ve cherry-picked the best winter spa treatments. We’ll see you in the sauna!

Mulled Wine Christmas Scrub

Where: Moddershall Oaks Country Spa Retreat, Staffordshire

Why: If Moddershall Oaks wasn’t reason enough to travel to Staffordshire, their limited edition Mulled Wine Christmas Scrub should be. The invigorating treatment smooths away dry winter skin using an aromatic blend of Christmassy scents. Think fruity mulled wine, zesty orange and festive spices including cinnamon, nutmeg and clove, all of which are known for their anti-inflammatory and detoxifying abilities. Winter might be notorious for killing our glow, but this treatment will restore it.

Available as part of the Moddershall Oaks Decadent December spa package. £369 for two people sharing, moddershalloaks.com

Elemis Nectar Nourishing Wrap

Where: Aqua Sana spas, UK

Why: If you haven’t experienced a wrap treatment before, now is the time to do so. Not only will the treatment intensely moisturise the body, a warming wrap is the perfect antidote to a miserable winter’s day. To begin, a lusciously fragrant mix of Middle Eastern oils, including velvety Manoi oil, is applied to the body using gentle sweeping strokes, with particular attention paid to parched areas. Your body is then kept warm and cocooned in a mood-balancing wrap while the skin-conditioning oils work their magic. Leave with soft, supple skin and a tranquil mind.

DNA NanoPore Blur

Where: D.Thomas Specialist Skin Clinic, London

Why: Whether it’s your annual work party or a glitzy family ‘do, if you’re in need of a fresh face for party season, look no further than this. The brand new DNA NanoPore Blur treatment by renowned celebrity facialist Debbie Thomas uses micro-needling to drastically improve skin tone and texture. It might sound scary, but, using the latest micro-puncture technology, shallower needles and the new, more gentle NanoPore Stylus2, pain and recovery time are both minimal. So how does it work? Creating tiny ‘micro-channels’ in the skin causes the dermis to go into repair mode, flooding itself with collagen and new cells. This makes the skin appear younger, brighter and more glowing. A skin-specific mesotherapy infusion worked into the micro-channels plus post-treatment LED light therapy stimulate further results.

Herbal Pindas Massage

Where: Renaissance Tuscany

Why: Sometimes no amount of UK pampering will save you from the cold. There are many reasons to book a spontaneous trip to Tuscany this winter, but experiencing their Herbal Pindas Massage might be top of the cards. Using seasonal Tuscan herbs soaked in warm oil, it’s the most glorious ticket to reworked muscles. After your treatment, you might also like to soak up the panoramic views of Tuscany’s mountainous valley from the rest of the spa, which includes an indoor pool, whirlpool sauna, Turkish baths, a solarium, and emotional showers with aromatherapy. Luxury at its best.

Winter Rasul

Where: Titanic Spa, Leeds

Why: The Titanic Spa launches its Winter Rasul this winter, bringing with it a spa experience not to be missed. It features the signature skin-smoothing spa ritual Mud Chamber, which invites guests to coat themselves in thick, organic mud. Sounds weird, works wonders – this mud is known for its detoxifying and healing benefits. Not only is this traditional Egyptian bathing ritual fantastic for combatting dry, winter skin, Titanic Spa has given the experience a festive makeover, too. A festive pine herbal steam fills the room, invoking memories of Christmas trees and seasonal freshness, while an ultra-fine iridescent glitter has been added to the mud for extra sparkle.
